The Metropolitan Police of London have apprehended three individuals linked to the fatal stabbing of a young father outside the upscale Park Tower Knightsbridge casino-hotel last Wednesday.
On July 12, two individuals were detained in Hounslow, a district in west London, with one being suspected of conspiracy to commit murder and the other of murder. On Monday, a third individual was taken into custody on suspicion of aiding an offender.
Blue Stevens, 24, a dad of two, was stabbed in front of his partner outside The Park Tower Casino while trying to protect his Rolex watch from a masked thief, according to initial reports.
Failed Heist … or Something Different?
The casino-hotel, priced at £1,500 (approximately US$2,000) nightly, sits merely a block away from the famous Harrods department store in London’s affluent Knightsbridge neighborhood.
Residents report an increase in criminals preying on individuals with high-end items, and police statistics indicate that street robberies in Knightsbridge and nearby Belgravia surged by 33% in the year leading to June.
Nonetheless, authorities stated Monday they were considering various motives, noting that Stevens might have been the victim of a targeted assault.
Visitors at the Park Tower reported noise and police sirens around 9:25 pm last Wednesday. A witness reported seeing a man on the ground while paramedics attempted to resuscitate him.
According to police, Stevens was declared dead at the scene soon after responders got there at about 9:30 p.m.
Police report that the suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed, are all male and in their twenties. Following their arrests, authorities obtained a warrant to search two locations in Chiswick, also located in west London, where substantial evidence was found.
Significant Milestone’
“These arrests mark a significant milestone in this complex and unfolding murder investigation,” Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah told reporters Monday.
“We continue to progress at pace. While we retain an open mind around motive, one line of enquiry is now that this may have been a targeted attack. Increased police patrols remain active in and around the Knightsbridge area. Please do speak with an officer if you have any questions or concerns,” Jessah added.
A spokesperson for the hotel confirmed last week that no guests or staff were connected to the incident
“We are very saddened by this incident that occurred on the street adjacent to our hotel. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.
