Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the purported robbery on March 15, 2025, which took place after a man exited DraftKings at Casino Queen in East St. Louis, Illinois.
On Saturday night, March 15, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department answered a 911 call from an upset 41-year-old man on the 5000 block of Goodfellow Blvd. in the Walnut Park West area. The man told police that he had been at the DraftKings Casino waiting for a cab to go home.
A pair came up to him, proposing to drive him home. He agreed.
Shortly after leaving the casino run by Bally’s Corp., the man recognized that the so-called good Samaritans were far from that. Rather than taking him home, they brought him to a side street near Goodfellow Blvd. where he was threatened with a gun and demanded to surrender the roughly $2,500 in cash he possessed.
The supposed victim yielded. The suspects, which involved a third individual who got into the car after agreeing to the lift, ran away after taking the cash. They left the victim’s cell phone behind, enabling him to contact the police.
Nonetheless, the man claimed that one of the assailants hit him in the face with a gun and discharged several rounds into the sky as they drove away.
Inquiry Results in Accusations
In their report, police stated that casino surveillance recognized a gray 2008 Honda Civic with Ohio license plates as the car involved in the crime. Authorities managed to locate the car, resulting in criminal charges for Jeffrey M. Burnett, 32, Mone D. Edwards, 27, and Jalyn T. Freeman, 32.
Freeman was arrested on May 16. The other two are still escaping.
All three are charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal activity. Burnett also confronts a charge of illegal firearm possession.
The three purported suspects all have criminal histories, with Burnett and Freeman having felony charges. Freeman had earlier admitted to felony weapon use and possession of a controlled substance.
The prosecution is being led by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office.
In Missouri, an individual convicted of first-degree robbery, classified as a Class A felony, can expect to serve a prison term between 10 and 30 years, with at least 85% of the sentence mandated to be served prior to any potential parole eligibility. A conviction for first-degree armed crime may lead to an additional five years.
Casino Queen Shooter
In March, a Georgia man received a 49-year prison sentence for his involvement in a robbery and shooting at the Casino Queen in 2017.
Daryl S. Muhammad, 48, was among three armed people who entered the casino on September 17 that year. Muhammad was identified as the shooter who fired at casino security guard Larry Weber during the event. Weber sustained severe injuries but healed and has now gone back to his job.
Muhammad’s two associates were never caught and are still at large.
In the 2017 robbery and shooting incident, the casino was referred to solely as Casino Queen. In 2020, the venue was rebranded as DraftKings at Casino Queen through a collaboration with the iGaming and sports betting firm. Queen Casino & Entertainment joined forces with Bally’s in a merger finalized in February 2025.
